Tapir!

7 August 2024 - 6:30 p.m.

London-based alt-folk sextet Tapir! arrives in Italy for two one-off dates with ‘The Pilgrim, Their God and The King Of My Decrepit Mountain’, their debut album released by Heavenly Recordings and produced by Hywel Pryer and Yuri Shibuichi of Honeyglaze, which has already received considerable acclaim from audiences and critics alike, so much so that they are already considered the ‘Next Big Thing’ of British music.

This multifaceted record fuses folk art, folklore and alt-folk experimentation, promising a unique and immersive experience: Tapir! are a fusion of music, theatre, mythology and storytelling; using paintings, stage sets, soundscapes and short films in their live shows, Tapir! invite the viewer into an exciting and mysterious world.

Formed in 2019, after just one gig at the iconic George Tavern, lockdown forced them to develop the project online. ‘The Pilgrim, Their God and The King of My Decrepit Mountain’ was gradually assembled with the help of art collective My Life is Big. The band recruited friends to create the world of The Pilgrim, its costumes and sets. The album follows a three-act structure, telling the story of a lone traveller, The Pilgrim, on a journey through a fantasy landscape of forests, seas and mountains populated by magical creatures. The collaborative ethos of Tapir! stems from the inclusive spirit of George Tavern. His enthusiasm and attention after Green Man Rising in 2022 prompted the band to take the project more seriously. Shibuichi’s playful production fits the humble, DIY nature of Tapir!
