Saturday 4 November 2023 - Conference hall of barchessa di levante
Cosa Nostra is a hybrid publication consisting of a selection of the artist’s visual works and a substantial collection of his writings on the art of the present and its making.
The publication constitutes the second act of the SOLO exhibition mounted in the Villa’s Exhibition Hall.
The first sixty-four pages of Cosa nostra are silent: a sequence of visual works are presented in their absolute communicative and interpretative nakedness, Toffolutti deciding not even to include reference to their title, year of creation or location.
The next eighty-four pages contain the artist’s dense thoughts on art and his art. In the first part, the micro-texts are punctuated by a reverse diary that begins in 2023 and stops at 10:50 p.m. on September 15, 2019.
Pizzini, Toffolutti calls them, little sheets of paper, notes written on a labile medium, perhaps paper, perhaps seemingly insignificant, but capable of the emotional power of the thing said for the first time-as the subtitle states, said to those who want to listen and understand, to those who will want to enter the real party of contemporary art, even when it may seem that every party is over
The presentation to the public will be curated by Guido Comis, Paolo Toffolutti and Patrizia Comuzzi who will dialogue with artist Manuela Sedmach.
Cosa nostra was published with the support of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and ERPAC FVG.
All texts are by Paolo Toffolutti. The preface is by artist Lucio Pozzi, the afterword by Patrizia Comuzzi.
Graphics were by Artemio Croato, publication and distribution by Gaspari Editore.
